日本赤ちゃん学会というものがあり、その学術集会で研究発表を行うことになりそうです。

その発表の概要は以下の通り。

優れているプリスクールの特徴として、「子ども主導の遊びや活動、子どもが中心で教師がつなぎ発展させる遊びや活動が多い保育」があげられている。では、この保育環境が子どもたちのどのような能力を引き出すことになるのか、今回は主にトラブルの解決に焦点をあて、考察したいと考えている。
保育園では5歳児がトラブルを自分たちで解決していく姿が見られる。この力は5歳児が突然身につけるものではなく、0歳児からの他者との多様な関わりの中で磨いていくものである。トラブルを解決する力を身につけるためには、乳児期からの他者との関わりや子ども主導の遊びがいかに大切かを、実際の日常的な保育現場から考えていく。そして他者との関わりや子ども主導の遊びを展開していくためには、保育者がどう関わり、どう子ども同士の関係をつないでいくかも重要である。様々な年齢の子どもがいる保育園という場の役割だけでなく、保育者の役割についても同時に考えていきたい。

この概要を提出した後、果たしてこの文章は一般的なものなのか？（保育園関係者以外に理解してもらえるものなのか？）と疑問に思い、妹（保育園関係者ではない）に頼んで英語にしてもらいました。
それを再度日本語に訳して（日本語→英語→日本語ということ）意味の通じるものが残れば、おそらくそれは一般的な文章だと言えるのではないだろうかという、勝手な理屈です。その結果ですが、まあまあいい感じではないかと思っています。日本語訳はつけませんが。
子どものこと、保育のことを広く知ってもらうことを目指しています。自分たちだけで通じる言葉を使って分かった気になっていても仕方ないと思っているので。
今回の翻訳がどんな役に立つのかは分かりませんが、思いついたことはこれからもいろいろと試してみます。

We would like to think about it by focusing on children’s problem-solving skills.
We see that 5-year-old children solve their problems on their own in our nursery school.
This problem-solving skill is not something that they learn all the sudden at the age of 5.
Children usually learn this skill gradually from the age of 0.
In order to acquire this problem-solving skill, we would like to think about how important it is for children to have interactions with others as well as child-led play.
It is also important to know how caregivers get involved in children to expand thier interactions with others and child-led play.
We would like to think about not only a role of a nursery with children of various ages but also a role of caregivers.
